Also Known as a Grey Wolf. Thse creatures are the center of many superstitions and nightmares. They were the beasts that hunt in the darkness and and sing in the moonlight. They are the children of the night, who dance in the shadows, The demon who will eat naughty kids whom that stay awake past there bed time. They are with out a doubt the most misconceived creatures in the wild!!! Right above to killer whales (Orcas), and vampire bats (Desmodontinae).
When people take a look at a wolf they see a wild animal, blood thirsty and ready to kill anything that moves. However, When I look upon them, I see ELEGANCE, BEAUTY, and LOYALTY; all mixed together in a blend with POWER, INTELLIGENCE and FEROCITY!
Having lived for many thousands of years, they have evolved into superb hunters. As hunters they follow very strict rules, mainly hirearchy. They are lead by the alpha pair, They only two in the pack who are allowed to breed. Under them are the Batas or the caretakers wolfs who are in charge of taking care of the pups. Finaly the omegas, whom are part of the pack but mainly segragated, Althought they are allowed at times to care for the pups interaction between omegas and other adults is not easily tolerated.
Today, thanks to the intensive hunting by man, the wolf population has decreased to the lowest it has ever been in history. Almost all species of wolves are now found on the endangered species list! Isle Royales, wolf population is soo low that in the summer of 2012 researchers where not able to record any signs of pup. The Mxican Grey Wolf in our southwester united states have begun to endanger themselves through inbreeding!
Some may ask themselves, "Why should I care?" People should care more for wolves since they are a keystone species. In other words, the presance of wolves in an ecosystem is vital for the health of the environment. Wolves eat deer which keep the deer population low, low deer population allow for grass to grow. This lets the deplenished deer community return. feeding the knew generation of wolves. Missing wolves would leave deer to over graze and run out of food. With both grass and deer population plummeting smaller species also suffer.
SAVE THA WOLVES!!! Or at least look up more one there importance, Thank You ^_^
